Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. Heriot - "Soul Chasm"
Heriot have always been heavy, and they're only getting heavier. The U.K. metalcore upstarts channel the brutal, plodding, all-consuming hellscapes of Godflesh on "Soul Chasm," a song that's so palpably hot and voluminous that you might singe your ears if your headphones are too loud. Don't say we didn't warn you...
Better Lovers - "Two Alive Amongst the Dead"
Better Lovers are feeling the inspo. Just a few months after surprise-releasing their debut EP, the metalcore supergroup returned with another barn burner that centers on Greg Puciato's noxious roars and Jordan Buckley's wire-bending riffage. It's jagged, it's squirmy, it's honest and it fucking rips.
Judas Priest - "Trial by Fire"
"Panic Attack," the first single from Judas Priest's new album, Invincible Shield, burned like rubber scraping on the open road. "Trial by Fire" smolders. The anthemic tune moves at a mid-tempo swing that's perfect for banging the dashboard while throwing your neck from side to side. Priest still have it — and in more ways than one.
Enterprise Earth - "The Reaper's Servant" (Feat. Darius Tehrani)
It's hard to make a five-minute deathcore song interesting from start to finish, and Enterprise Earth nailed it on "The Reapter's Servant." The song mutates from rubbery djent to Children of Bodom-ish shredding to deathcore skull-splittery and then closes with a pounding, chanty, almost sludgy breakdown. It's big. It's bold. It bangs.
Escuela Grind - "Ball and Chain"
Escuela Grind have typically traded in short bursts of grindy, blast-beaten fury. "Ball and Chain" is different. It's nearly four minutes long and the first minute consists of a primitive, thwacking chug that makes you want to bang your head through drywall. It eventually gets faster, but not too fast. Call it Escuela Death Metal.
Sentinel - "Avenge"
Featuring members of Mindforce, Age of Apocalypse and Mutually Assured Destruction, Sentinel are a veritable hardcore supergroup who rip and tear through the crossover thrash playbook on "Avenge." There's a headbanging part, a mosh part and a horns-up part that unexpectedly channels early Iron Maiden. Hell yeah.
