Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in nu-metal, industrial, metalcore and more that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. For your listening pleasure, we've also compiled the songs in an ever-evolving Spotify playlist.
Linkin Park - "A6"
A previously-unreleased rarity from the the Meteora 20th anniversary reissue, "A6" is a nu-metal banger that'll transport you right back to 2003. The grimy guitar tone and crunchy riffs turn this lost cut into a must-hear piece of Linkin Park's discography, and though Chester Bennington's voice wasn't able to be included in "A6," the song feels like a complete idea from one of the new millennium's biggest bands.
Poppy - "Church Outfit"
Poppy has never been an artist to be tied down by genre, and her newest cut brings an industrial-metal edge to her ever-expanding discography. "Church Outfit" is driven by a pulsating beat in the vein of Nine Inch Nails and a vocal performance that's almost like a spoken-word piece. It's a noticeable swerve from the toothy punk sound of her past two releases, 2021's Flux and 2022's Stagger, and like always, we're here for wherever Poppy decides to take us.
Spaced - "Cycle Killer"
There're too many great, young hardcore bands to keep track of these days, but don't let Spaced get lost in the shuffle. The Buffalo band released a great demo in 2021 and an even better comp in 2022, but "Cycle Killer" — one of two loosies they dropped today — is by far their most complete song yet. Singer Lexi Reyngoudt dribbles in some tuneful clean singing in between the snarling verses, but all the catchiness is offset by a belligerent breakdown that makes you want to play whack-a-mole on people's heads.
Spinebreaker - "Spectral Forge"
What a filthy tone. If you're looking for some new death metal that pays tribute to the greats of the genre, then this new cut from Spinebreaker (a Bay Area band featuring members of hardcore leaders Sunami and Gulch) will tickle your fancy. "Spectral Forge" sounds like it was recorded in one of the deeper circles of Hell, and the echo of the singer's growl travels straight through the abyss and out of your speakers. This one's gonna leave your neck sore.
Dying Wish - "Torn From Your Silhouette"
Dying Wish's newest single sounds like it was torn from the classic metalcore fabric of 2003. It's a killer mix of essential "core" dynamics turned up to max volume and filtered through modern production, with a soul that'll resonate deeply with longtime fans of the genre. Delving deep into themes of rejection and pain, Emma Boster's vocals carry the track's emotional weight, while Dying Wish's instrumental section powers the engine.
Buggin - "All Eyes on You"
Buggin represent the finest of Chicago's hardcore scene, and "All Eyes on You" will get even the old-heads at the back of the venue fiending for a spot in the pit. Clocking in well under the two minute mark (as most of the best hardcore does), the lead single from their debut album, Concrete Cowboys, sees vocalist Bryanna Bennett roaring at full velocity over noisy, chunky instrumentation that bounces and thrashes with equal measure.
