Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in industrial-metal, deathcore, hardcore and more that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. Baroness - "Last Word"
Baroness have grown a lot since their sludgy, stoner-metally early days, but "Last Word" is on a whole other level. The Georgia band's first song in four years deconstructs their sound and builds it back up with a Nineties space-rock foundation; tons of breathing room in the mix, snakey basslines, wild guitar latticework from John Baizley and Gina Gleason, and a humongous hook that sounds like if Sunny Day Real estate went sludge-metal. Fucking cool.
Dethklok - "Aortic Desecration"
It's been a long 10 years since we last heard from Dethklok, the real-life incarnation of the Metalocalypse cartoon band, led by the animated series' co-creator Brendon Small, but they haven't gotten any less crushing in their decade of sleep. "Aortic Desecration" is the lead single from their long-awaited new full-length, Deathalbum IV, and it's a decimating, extreme-metal firestorm that picks up right where Nathan Explosion and Co. left off. Bruuuutal.
Pain of Truth - "Actin' Up" (Feat. 200 Stab Wounds)
Pain of Truth understand the how much a great guest verse can do to a song. Their 2020 EP was stuffed with cameos from their NYHC buddies, and every song on their upcoming debut, Not Through Blood, features a different titan of the genre. First single "Actin' Up" calls on 200 Stab Wounds frontman Steve Buhl to gurgle some demonic death growls in the middle of this otherwise hype-as-fuck hardcore ripper. So goddamn heavy, so goddamn fun.
Cannibal Corpse - "Blood Blind"
Cannibal Corpse are about to be 16 albums deep into their career, and they still haven't run out of ways to sound scary as fuck. "Blood Blind," the first single from this year's Chaos Horrific, is an absolute beast of a song that begins with a violent trudge that could soundtrack a funereal march into the depths of hell. There's also lyrics like, "Seas of gore as far as the eye can see." They've still got it.
Imminence - "Come Hell or High Water"
Swedish metalcore troupe Imminence have been doing their thing for over a decade now, but "Come Hell or High Water" sounds like a potential breakthrough. This gauzy, string-laden ballad that hits like a cross between Bad Omens and the type of darkly melodic metalcore that Australian bands such as Amity Affliction and Northlane were emerging with a decade ago. It's a cool, powerful song with a grand, emotional build.
Filth Is Eternal - "Crawl Space"
Filth Is Eternal sounds refreshingly untethered from the current hardcore trendscape. The Seattle band (formerly known as Fucked and Bound) clearly have their roots in the ratty basement sound, and definitely rock out in a way that tips their hat to their PNW predecessors in Poison Idea. But frontperson Lis Di Angelo can really fucking belt, and they let their voluminous voice rip atop these riffs with a commanding passion that really leaves an impact on the ears.
