Cannibal Corpse - "Summoned for Sacrifice"
"One person is randomly selected to die. Thirteen people are randomly selected to kill this person by violently removing pieces of his body until he breathes no more." No Cannibal Corpse fan needs more than that lyrical description to get their blood pumping. "Summoned for Sacrifice" is another masterclass of brutal death metal by the GOATs, pulling no punches in its vicious riffs or ultra-violent lyrics. It's exactly what you were both expecting and hoping for... motherfucking gore.
The Plot in You - "Forgotten"
The grooves are beefy in The Plot in You's newest track, "Forgotten." The track delves into topics of self-reliance and enduring whatever hardships come your way, along with the plague of drug addiction and those unable to escape its grip. The breakdown-heavy metalcore cut relies on slick production and punchy kickdrum work to get its message across, further piercing through with a vulnerable vocal performance from Landon Tewers.
Taproot - "No One Else to Blame"
That early 2000s nu-metal sound still feels as classic as ever in Taproot's cathartic new single, "No One Else to Blame." It's been over 10 years since the Michigan musicians released a new album, and they've leveled up their sound with some modern, down-tuned metalcore guitars. This killer cut has actually been seven years in the making, given they first played it live at a hometown gig back in 2017. Better late than never for the studio version, which brings a similar creative evolution to what Deftones did on Ohms.
Alex Terrible - "Doom Slayer"
On his unbelievably vicious covers of DOOM soundtrack classics, "BFG Division" and "The Only Thing They Fear is You," Slaughter to Prevail's Alex Terrible brought deathcore's most violent vocals to Mick Gordon's iconic kill-em-all video game cuts. Now, Terrible has unveiled his own creation, "Doom Slayer." Originally meant as a collaboration with Gordon, Terrible ultimately made this his solo deathcore debut, serving as a bloody spiritual successor to the greatest OST of the millennium. Fire up the chainsaw, because this one's a fucking killer.
A Mourning Star - "Encased in Crystalline"
A Mourning Star's "Encased in Crystalline" feels like a mutated mix of early 2000s metalcore touchstones like Poison the Well and As I Lay Dying. This time-capsule cut from the burgeoning Vancouver band hits all the right notes, from the vocalist's muffled barks to the metallic string-skipping riffs and driving drums. A Mourning Star's band logo is even in cursive ... Fuck, my lower back is killing me. Just give this banger a listen.
Magnitude - "Of Days Renewed"
Ever get one of those Victory Records samplers? "Of Days Renewed" is a better version of the hardcore tracks you'd find on those CDs. Magnitude deliver a classic straight-edge anthem here, and it'll make you want to stomp a hole in your floor before picking up a book on PMA. It's some of the best meat and potatoes you'll ever sink your teeth into, with no fat to chew whatsoever. Swing your fists for North Carolina's finest straight-edge crew.
