Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in hardcore, death-thrash, grunge and more that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. Code Orange - "Snapshot"
Code Orange got more eclectic than ever on their new album, The Above, flipping between wind-knocking hardcore, heart-pounding grunge, sinewy trip-hop and whatever the hell "Snapshot" is, which falls outside the bounds of anything they've ever attempted.
Above an industrial drum beat, Reba Meyers alternatingly seethes and sings as the guitars gnash and cool, jostling between one of Code Orange's catchiest refrains and blood-boiling guitar solos. It rawks.
Year of the Knife - "Last Laugh" (Feat. Dylan Walker)
Year of the Knife already serve up a ripping dose of metallic hardcore on their own, but their wrecking-ball sound got even heavier with the inclusion of Full of Hell frontman Dylan Walker on "Last Laugh."
The mad-dog vocals the kick off this new joint are positively ravenous, and it only gets harder and nastier throughout the remaining 40 seconds. Here's to hoping YOTK vocalist Madi Watkins continues her triumphant recovery so we can one day hear this bad-boy live.
Nervosa - "Elements of Sin"
Brazilian death-thrashers Nervosa sound angrier and hungrier for blood than ever before on "Elements of Sin," a song from their new LP, Jailbreak, that sounds like a pack of wolves ripping apart their prey.
The flying V guitar heroics are fully intact, but the pulverizing grooves during the choruses verge on straight-up death-metal with their gear-grinding filthiness.
Perpetua - "Overcome"
Can't get enough of bands like Gojira and Orbit Culture? Check out Perpetua. The Scottish brutalizers dabble with Meshuggah-tier syncopatations on "Overcome," but never step both feet into the math-metal classroom.
There's plenty of groove, swagger and good 'ol fashion death-metal gutturals to keep Perptua grounded in their pursuit of ear-splitting domination. Bang your head.
Harm's Way - "Hollow Cry"
Harm's Way have had powerviolence, metalcore and industrial eras throughout their comprehensive career, and now they're trying their hand with full-on sludge-metal.
"Hollow Cry" is a particularly explosive standout from Common Suffering, built upon heave-ho-ing rhythmic detonations and tortured-plea vocals from frontman James Pligge.
Broken Vow - "Propaganda of the Deed"
On their debut album, Anthropocene, Broken Vow fulfilled the promise laid out by their string of feisty seven-inches. "Propaganda of the Deed" is a particularly clattering standout from this new batch of punchy metallic hardcore.
Stick around for the truly throat-shredding vocals from World of Pleasure frontperson Jess Nyx, and that decimating final mosh part.
