In February, Australian-born/L.A.-based "death-pop" duo VOWWS released the stand-alone single "One by One" (which came with the B-side "Shadow Man"). Today (November 11th), the Deftones-approved group have offered another new song, "Wait," featuring goth chanteuse Chelsea Wolfe. The haunting ode is the lead single off VOWWS' upcoming third full-length, due out this March.
Written during the height of pandemic isolation, "Wait" deals, thematically, with the sadness of watching humanity turn on itself. Musically, it's more stripped down than much of VOWWS' previous output, and less overtly electronic, built around a spare guitar lick and ghostly, aching vocals. Listen below via Bandcamp.
"This is the most direct, honest song we've written," VOWWS' Rizz tells Revolver. "It wasn't meant to be a VOWWS song originally. It was just an expression of feeling during a difficult time. But it took on a life of its own, especially when we got Chelsea involved — her vocals haunt this track. She took it somewhere we wouldn't have, and that makes it special to us."
Next week, Revolver will premiere the music video for "Wait," so keep you eyes peeled.
