Endorsed by Meshuggah, Mr. Bungle and Kenny G (seriously), masked NYC eccentrics Imperial Triumphant are cranking out some of the most head-spinning heavy metal around. Their most recent endeavor is a series of covers, including jazzy renditions of Rush, Dizzy Gillespie and Radiohead.
Their latest cover is much more in the wheelhouse of the average metalhead: a take on Metallica's old-school thrash favorite "Motorbreath." In Imperial Triumphant's hands, the Kill 'Em All standout becomes an avant-garde jaw-dropper that's barely recognizable compared to the original. Check it out above.
Imperial Triumphant bassist Steve Blanco commented: "As a metal band, only a fool would believe we aren't influenced by Metallica. Many miles and hours traversing the Northern Hemisphere have we listened to the live and studio Metallica greatness from the 1980s and 1990s, and so have we decided to pay homage with a nostalgic cover from that earliest album recorded in upstate New York. Play it loud because metal is the law."
