Former Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars has released his debut solo single, "Loyal to the Lie." It's the axman's first music since his headline-making split with Crüe, and it's the first taste of his forthcoming solo album, The Other Side of Mars. Anyone expecting a glammy hair-metal romp or a lighters-up power ballad is in for something significantly heavier.
"I wanted to do something that was just big and mean," the guitarist commented. "People are going to hear my tone — my sound. I am what I am. Nobody else can do it. And like everyone, I've got a limited number of years. So, I'm gonna do all I can to do a lot of stuff.
"When it comes to my playing, there's the Mötley side and the Mars side. Either way, I always have a very clear vision of what I want to do."
The guitarist's solo album features vocalist Jacob Bunton, bassist Chris Collier, Winger and former Alice Cooper keyboardist Paul Taylor as well as Korn drummer Ray Luzier. Singer Brion Gamboa contributes to two tracks. The record was produced by Michael Wagener, who engineered and mixed Crüe's 1981 debut, Too Fast for Love, in addition to working with the likes of Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Skid Row and others.
The Other Side of Mars is due out February 23rd via Mars' own label, 1313 LLC.
