Myrkur has returned. This fall, Danish composer and multi-instrumentalist Amalie Bruun will release Spine, the latest album from her transcendent folk-metal project, and first full-length offering since 2020's plaintive Folkesange.
Today (August 22nd), Myrkur is previewing the album with a gorgeously epic new song called "Like Humans," which sounds a little closer the folky black-metal sound that defined her acclaimed first two albums, Mareridt and M.
There're blast beats and chugging guitars throughout, and an epic post-rock swell that blends beautifully with Bruun's angelic vocals in a way that feels distinctly different than the softer, more spartan songs on Folkesange. Listen to "Like Humans" above via YouTube.
"When I wrote 'Like Humans' I felt very disconnected and isolated from the human race," Bruuns said in a press release. "The lack of touch and being in the first few years of motherhood forced me to become human in a way I never thought I would.
"Going through all of these changes at once made me desperately want to feel a connection with the earth and humans. Writing and recording this album helped me heal and succeed with that dream."
Spine is out October 20th via Relapse Records and it's now available for pre-order in a variety of options. Revolver has teamed with Myrkur for an exclusive "evergreen" colored vinyl variant — limited to 300 copies. Get yours from our shop.
