Sevendust are one of the most respected bands in nu-metal. The genre stalwarts, fronted by powerhouse singer Lajon Witherspoon, have dropped a whopping 13 albums over their 20-year-plus career, with songs like "Black" and "Denial" earning their place in the canon.
However, when Loudwire recently asked Witherspoon to name the Sevendust song he's proudest of, he didn't go with one of the band's iconic hits. Instead, he selected "Shine" from the 2001 album Animosity, a crunching anthem written about his younger brother Reginald, who was shot to death the following year.
"[I wrote it] about my little brother that passed… who was killed," said Witherspoon. The singer has since come to dedicate live performances of the song to his fallen sibling. "I wish he was able to be here, alive, to be with me and to see what we've done."
