When Metallica first announced their M72 World Tour back in November 2022, most metalheads immediately zeroed in on one eye-catching fact: Motherfucking Pantera would be supporting the thrash titans on select dates.
The first of those dates was yesterday (August 4th), the kickoff show of the U.S. leg of the trek, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — and it did not disappoint. Wolfgang Van Halen's band Mammoth WVH opened the festivities, warming up the 80,000-capacity venue for Pantera, who crushed all comers with an hour-long set packed with power-groove classics.
It was a tough act to follow, but Metallica were up to the task, closing the night with 16 songs, both old and new, culminating in the one-two punch of "Seek & Destroy" and "Master of Puppets."
