Ozzy Osbourne is the Prince of Darkness. The Madman. The Godfather of Heavy Metal. But even he was once so terrified by a horror movie that he practically shit his pants in the theater.
In a new interview with Metal Hammer, the Black Sabbath co-founder was asked to pick his single favorite horror flick of all time, and he ended up going with one that came out right when Sabbath's career was exploding, and that has haunted the catacombs of his memory every since: the 1973 William Friedkin classic, The Excorcist.
The Exorcist (1973)
"Our manager came to us one day when we were on tour and says, 'You have to go and see this film called The Exorcist. We said, 'The Exorcist? What the fuck does that mean?' He said, 'Just go and see it.'
"We were in Philadelphia in this fucking movie theater and we were shitting ourselves! That one was just so real. We were freaked out! Here we were, Black Sabbath and I'm the Prince Of Darkness and all this, and we had to go see another movie — [1936 Paul Newman caper film] The Sting —just to stop thinking about it. It was so amazing."
