Anthrax axeman Scott Ian and his 10-year-old son Revel Young Ian have been hitting the practice space hard lately. The father-son duo have been posting covers of songs by Sepultura and System of a Down, with the elder Ian on guitar and his offspring banging away at the drums with precocious force. Now, in an unexpected deviation from the Eighties and Nineties metal canon, the pair have shared a ripping cover of "Holiday" by the current champions of hardcore, Turnstile.
It's not particularly surprising to learn that Ian is hip to Turnstile, given how unavoidably popular they've become since last year's Glow On and the thrash icon's own involvement with the second wave of New York Hardcore in the mid-Eighties. Turnstile's sound definitely calls back to the metalized NYHC that was omnipresent when Ian started his crossover supergroup Stormtroopers of Death, and it's good to see that he's imparted his love of mosh parts and gang chants onto his son — who's the perfect age to begin his own hardcore journey with a band like Turnstile.
