On April 20th, 1992, the surviving members of Queen — Roger Taylor, Brian May and John Deacon — celebrated the life of their late frontman, Freddie Mercury, with a blowout tribute concert at Wembley Stadium. Joining the English prog-pop stars were a smattering of A-list bands and solo artists that ran the gamut from Elton John and David Bowie to Guns 'N' Roses and U2 — as well as two of metal's most famous fixtures, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi and Metallica singer-guitarist James Hetfield.
The full Metallica band — who are notably influenced by Queen — played their own three-song set at one point during the show, but the most amazing heavy music moment of the whole affair was when Hetfield and Iommi hit the stage at the same time to perform Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy" with the band. The title of the 1974 banger is also a perfect description of the performance, which featured a long-haired Hetfield making a rare appearance on stage without a guitar, allowing him to dart around the platform like a maniac while bellowing Mercury's parts with his own unique croak.
Iommi kept his cool and just fucking shredded alongside the equally masterful May, which made for quite a spectacle. Watch pro-shot footage of the legendary performance above via YouTube.
