Last Friday (November 11th), Australian-born/L.A.-based "death-pop" duo VOWWS released their new single "WAIT." featuring the one and only Chelsea Wolfe. Today, the band — who count Deftones' Chino Moreno and the Cults' Ian Astbury among their fans — have teamed with Revolver to premiere its visual companion piece, a gorgeous, dreamlike music video filmed with cinematographer Gretchen Lanham, while holed up in a cabin in the California wilderness. The song was written during the height of pandemic isolation, and the video — directed and edited by VOWWS' own Rizz — echoes its plaintive call for companionship and meaning.
"Loneliness can become a habit," Rizz tells us. "Forced isolation is one thing, but when you put yourself in a mental prison it's so much harder to get out. I've gone through a lot of things that are hard to articulate — but it feels natural to use sounds and images to process the abstract shit flying around my mind."
Lanham adds, "When I heard 'WAIT.' for the first time, I was immediately struck by how hauntingly beautiful it was. I knew right away that the video needed to have a strong aesthetic to accompany and honor the bewitching collaboration."
"WAIT." is the lead single off VOWWS' upcoming third full-length, due out this March.
