Slipknot have had a weird, mysterious year. From the sudden departure of longtime sampler/keyboardist Craig Jones and their surprise Adderal EP, to the increasing chatter about their unheard "Radiohead vibe" album finally seeing the light of day, it's been a whirlwind year to be Maggot.
And it ain't over yet. Today (November 3rd), Slipknot have unveiled a new Maggot Mask for fans to purchase, and they've also launched a mysterious countdown on the website takeoffyourface.com.
Dubbed 002, the mask is a totally revamped version of the first Maggot Mask, which is the creepy visage that appears on the cover of Slipknot's Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, and was designed to honor their fans (lovingly referred to as "Maggots"). Fans can buy this new Maggot Mask now.
However, the part that really has Revolver HQ scratching our heads is the countdown clock that's ticking above the mask on its website. The timer is set to go off on Monday (November 6th) at noon EST, and the only clue we have is this Maggot Mask — which is enough to get us excited.
As mentioned, the first Maggot Mask was released in conjunction with the band's 2004 album, Vol. 3, which turns 20 next year. Maybe Slipknot are planning to announce something that celebrates the 20th anniversary of that landmark release? A tour? A deluxe version of the album? Some merch?
We have no idea, and maybe it's something completely unrelated to Vol. 3. Guess we'll have to wait until Monday at noon to find out...
Until then, take a gander at the new Maggot Mask below.
