It's been 13 years since the last Tool album, 10,000 Days, was released. The world — and the way we interact with each other — has changed immensely since then, and comparatively speaking, the band is entering an almost unrecognizable social and political landscape with their latest record. For our new 20-page cover story, we spoke with guitarist and visual mastermind Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey, bassist Justin Chancellor and vocalist Maynard James Keenan about what they've been up to over the course of the last decade-plus and about the labor-intensive creation of their new LP, Fear Inoculum. "We're really hard on ourselves, so we don't pay much attention to people's expectations," Carey admits of the group's songwriting process. "I wouldn't recommend it to the faint of heart — but it works for us."

The Aug/Sept issue hits newsstands August 13th, but you can grab the Tool issue and a special edition box set that includes four alternate covers now.
