One of the year's most unexpected musical crossovers took place on Friday night (October 6th). During their set at the Hollywood Bowl, nu-metal pioneers-turned alt-rock mainstays Incubus invited pop megastar Lizzo onstage to sing and play flute for their song "Aqueous Transmission."
In case you didn't know, Lizzo is a classically trained flutist who studied the instrument during her time in college. Last year, she caused a viral stir when she played a 200-year-old crystal flute that once belonged to President James Madison at the Library of Congress. Now, she's paling around onstage with Incubus.
"Aqueous Transmission" is a cut from Incubus' 2001 smash, Morning View, which the band just-recorded and were celebrating with a full-album play-through during Friday night's show. The song notably features a lush flute part, and Lizzo handled that section with grace during her time onstage with Brandon Boyd and Co.
"Thank you Lizzo for joining us at the Bowl," Incubus wrote on Instagram after the set. "Was an honor to share the stage with you."
